Nugenix Total–T review: Side Effects, Ingredients, comparison with other Nugenix Testosterone Boosters, Ultimate- User reviews and does it really work?
Nugenix Total-T claims to be scientifically formulated, new-and-improved formula designed to help men, especially 40 and older to increase lean muscle mass, and boost free & total testosterone levels.
For a while, Nugenix’s men’s health supplements have been gaining a significant amount of popularity. This product line is most famous for its ability to boost testosterone production in men as well as for libido/virility boosting. It includes many different versions including Nugenix PM with ZMA, GH Boost, Nugenix Free Testosterone Booster, Nugenix Maxx, Estro Regulator and of course, the famous Nugenix Total-T.
Quick Summary:
For people trying their first testosterone booster, Nugenix Total-T provides an old-fashioned formulation, yet relatively good choice of T-boosting ingredients. It stands out from the other choices in the market by including vitamins & minerals, natural aphrodisiacs and performance-enhancers as well. It also gets an extra point for making sure all its ingredients’ benefits are well-documented in research and for having Tongkat Ali extract (a rare ingredient not found in many T boosters) and antioxidant polyphenols blend for energy & endurance. All in all, it is a good product with decent price, but it misses out on some potent ingredients like D-AA and Ashwagandha. Besides, dosage of Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia Extract) seems low at 100mg. Overall, Nugenix Total-T is more potent than Nugenix Free Testosterone Booster, however it is weaker than Nugenix Ultimate($89.99) & Nugenix Maxx ($169.99).
Overall, Nugenix Ultimate and Nugenix Total-T, both are good Testosterone boosting supplements, but they miss out on some ingredients, especially Ashwagandha while some user reviews are mixed. Currently, Prime Male and TestoPrime are leading the race of our recommended natural testosterone boosting supplements for men. Introduction to Nugenix T-boosters lineup
Nugenix’s premium testosterone supplements lineup has become increasingly popular in recent years. Their products use well thought-out formulation containing a unique blends of key clinically proven ingredients, all of which have been tested and certified for their quality and purity by independent third-party scientists. The company behind it has experience manufacturing several branded health products, including Dr Sinatra, Dr Whitaker, Dr Williams, Instaflex etc.
A lot of research has been put into creating natural dietary supplements that are specifically designed to either act in a similar way the testosterone hormone works on the male body and enhance its effects or boost the natural production of testosterone in the body. T-boosters are designed to do the latter.
There are a lot of Testosterone boosters in the market, all of which boast that they provide the best results with the least side effects. Our review team put the Nugenix Total-T in the spotlight, shedding light on its benefits, and side effects, and digging deeper into its ingredients & comparing with other Nugenix T boosting products as well as products from other brands.
What are the Nugenix Total-T Ingredients?
Many ingredients play a role in creating the Nugenix Total-T supplement including Zinc, ElevATP Blend antioxidant blend of energy & endurance (Ancient Peat Extract and Apple Fruit Extract), Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma Longifolia Extract), Vitamins B6 and B12, Boron, Fenugreek Extract and L-Citrulline Malate.
Each ingredient has a part in creating the Nugenix Total-T and giving it its T-boosting properties.
So, let’s dig deeper into these ingredients and find out the role they play in boosting the testosterone levels in the body:
- Vitamin B Complex
In the world of supplements, Vitamin B is one of the most prescribed, and rightfully so. It’s known to treat many problems like exhaustion, muscle aches, constant fatigue, weakness etc. Not to mention, it also increases the metabolic rate, and energy levels, and has mood-enhancing effects.
But what about testosterone production?
So far, the relationship between testosterone and Vitamin B isn’t exactly clear. However, one animal study shows promising results and a possible connection between Vitamin B and testosterone receptor production, which can help enhance testosterone’s action in the body. (Source : pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/6727359/ , www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5987952/ )
- Zinc
Unlike Vitamin B, the connection between zinc and testosterone is clear as day. Zinc has been well-acknowledged as a testosterone-boosting supplement and is commonly prescribed for men with testosterone deficiency.
Most T-boosting supplements are rich with zinc, which makes it a surprise that Nugenix Total-T has only 1 mg of this Testosterone-boosting ingredient.
For context, the recommended dosage for adults is around 11mg per day while the maximum tolerable dose is 40mg. This makes the small dose of zinc in this testosterone supplement quite strange as it’s far less than the safe dose for consumption, however several other T boosters in the market are also using smaller doses as long as there are other T boosting ingredients that all work in synergy. For illustration, here is an ingredients comparison table of 3 popular T boosters – Nugenix Total T vs Prime Male vs TestoPrime.
- L-Citrulline Malate
L-Citrulline Malte is a popular choice of amino acids that are added to various health supplements.
Its main action comes down to its ability to improve blood flow in different areas of the body and make sure enough oxygen is being delivered to those areas, including muscles.
That’s why L-Citrulline Malate is popularly used to treat erectile dysfunctions and give a boost to muscular performance.
It’s also believed that its blood-flow-boosting property can play a role in increasing testosterone production by influencing pituitary gland (LH) & testicles.
- Fenugreek Extract
It’s always a good sign when the Fenugreek extract is present in a T-boosting supplement.
This ingredient has the well-known advantage of increasing the levels of free testosterone & boosting weight loss and enhancing effects of resistance training in men.
Not to mention, it’s already been long-used and documented in boosting testosterone levels in elderly men, making it a useful ingredient in any Testosterone boosting supplement. However, over time, more powerful ingredients like D-AA, Ashwagandha etc. came up that are backed by modern research and now being used more commonly in many testosterone supplements, instead of fenugreek.
A more effective, patented version of Fenugreek called Testofen is being used in Nugenix Total-T and similar supplements. Testofen is a standardized extract of Fenugreek, and is very careful extracted and standardized to its content of fenusides. These are saponins, which means they have a molecule structure a little bit like a steroid hormone.
When you ingest these, they act LIKE a steroid hormone to bind to a protein in the blood SHBG. When that happens, a percentage of the Testosterone that’s bound to this protein is released, made “free” and activated.
- Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma Longifolia Extract)
Saying that Tongkat Ali has been used in treating male performance disorders & ED issues for a long time is an understatement.
Tongkat Ali (also known as Eurycoma Logifolia Extract) has been used for centuries in traditional medical practices and its testosterone-boosting properties have been well-documented and researched.
This ingredient doesn’t only boost testosterone production but also has potential of improving overall fertility by improving spermatogenesis and men’s muscular health.
Another additional benefit is that it improves energy levels and overall strength.
Once again, it comes as a surprise that it’s present in the supplement in an amount that’s much less than needed.
The Nugenix Total T supplement only has 100 mg of Tongkat Ali. To put things in perspective, studies have found that the body needs around 400mg of this supplement to benefit from its testosterone-boosting benefit, although one study recommend 200 mg. per day for Testosterone boosting effects. (Source: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21671978/ )
- elevATP Blend
This ingredient has been gaining a lot of popularity but what exactly is elevATP Blend?
Well, it’s a patented blend that consists of peat extract along with apple fruit extract.
The main action of this blend is increasing ATP production, the energy currency in the body along with some antioxidant effects.
Therefore, this ingredient is more of a performance-enhancing ingredient that gives the body more energy.
- Boron
Boron is a trace mineral that can enhance men’s health in more than one way.
From boosting the body’s metabolic rate to promoting the healthy growth of bone tissues and aiding wound healing, this mineral has various health benefits that make it popular in the world of men’s health supplements.
But what about T-boosting supplements?
Boron’s T-boosting power comes from its ability to bind with estradiol. Naturally, estradiol is produced in the body and antagonizes testosterone, inhibiting its production in the body.
By binding to estradiol, and acting as estrogen blocker, Boron allows more testosterone to be produced naturally.
The Nugenix Total T has a decent amount of Boron, adding up to around 10 mg, which is more than what other T-Boosting Supplements offer. This gives the Nugenix Total T an extra point in comparison to other testosterone supplements.

Pros of Nugenix Total-T
- Besides testosterone-boosting ingredients, also contains natural aphrodisiacs and natural performance-enhancing ingredients that may help in boosting libido & male performance.
- All-natural ingredients & no risk of any serious side effects or health complications
- It is an OTC supplement that doesn’t need a doctor’s prescription and can be bought online
- Good blend of clinically backed ingredients (especially boron, zinc, Tongkat ali and fenugreek) work on increasing the levels of free testosterone as well as the total testosterone
- It’s likely to give you some benefits that a synthetic anabolic can offer without side-effects
- Clinically researched ingredients with proven T-boosting benefits
- Boron in Total-T acts as anti-estrogen/estrogen regulator
- Contains an antioxidant blend for energy & endurance
- Decent value for money
Cons of Nugenix Total-T
- The amount of Zinc and Tongkat Ali is underwhelming. In fact, it’s actually below the average dose needed to provide results.
- Missing out on some powerful ingredients such as ashwagandha and D Aspartic acid (present in competing products like Prime Male and TestoPrime)
- Overall seems an old-fashioned formula as compared to latest T boosting formulae in the market
- User reviews seem mixed, so may not work for some men
Regarding the zinc content:
- There’s only 1 mg in each dose, while the recommended amount is 11mg.
- Zinc is one of the elements that our body doesn’t store and depends on external sources to gain.
- Zinc can be found in many dietary choices including red meat and seafood.
- So, this supplement can’t be your primary source of zinc and you have to make sure you’re getting enough through your diet or other supplement to get the best results of this supplement.
Regarding the Tongkat Ali content:
- There’s about 100 mg of this useful ingredient in the Nugenix Total-T
- There’s concern regarding this as clinical trials have documented that the body requires 400 mg to enhance testosterone levels
Does Nugenix Total T work for men?
User reviews seem mixed, so may not work for some men. Everyone is different and there are many reasons why a T booster might not work for you, depending on hormonal profile, and the causes behind low Testosterone levels, if any. While the ingredients are clinically backed, for some men, the formulation might not be enough to beat the homeostasis system. For many men, trying and finding a product that works best is a matter of trial & error.
Nugenix Total-T vs Other Nugenix Versions
Nugenix Ultimate Review
Nugenix Ultimate is kind of an enhanced, more potent version of Nugenix Total-T. It contains some of those modern, clinically backed ingredients that the original version Total-T is missing ie.- D-aspartic acid, Mucuna Pruriens, Stinging nettle extract. Apart from that, it has a libido boosting & performance enhancing ingredients Maca and Epimedium grandiflorum, which makes Nugenix Ultimate a multi-purpose, multi-ingredients comprehensive mens health supplement. However, whether it works as a cure-all magical pill for anyone is more a matter of trial & error. Besides, being priced at $90/bottle, it is expensive than other similar options like PrimeMale and TestoPrime, while still missing out on Ashwagandha.
Nugenix Total-T vs Nugenix Ultimate (or Nugenix Total T-Ultimate)
Based on ingredients & user reviews, Nugenix Ultimate (or Nugenix Total T-Ultimate) can be considered more powerful & potent version of Nugenix Testosterone supplements.

Which version should you buy – Nugenix Total-T or Nugenix Ultimate?
Overall Nugenix Total-T Ultimate seems to provide better value for money, despite it being more expensive than its original counterpart Nugenix Total-T, as it contains latest ingredients like D-AA, Maca, Mucuna Pruriens, Epimedium etc. making it a more comprehensive Testosterone booster that can be used for muscle building, libido & performance in bedroom, and even for weight loss. It is formulated better & more potent than Nugenix Total-T. For full list of various T Boosters for men for various purposes – bodybuilding, ED, libido & male performance, anti-aging, weight loss etc., read PowerandBulk.com’s guide to best T boosters for men.
Here are the main ingredients that make Nugenix Ultimate a better choice over Nugenix Total-T:
DAA (d-Aspartic acid) – While the other testosterone boosting herbs and compounds like Tribulus, Tongkat Ali, have been known to mankind for several years now, DAA or D-Aspartic acid is a fairly new entrant to the list of substances that can increase Testosterone. Some gym goers & fitness enthusiasts provide anecdotal evidence of its positive benefits while some bodybuilders rave about it.
Some clinical studies do demonstrate that DAA is incredibly effective in raising testosterone levels and you should take it in combination with other T boosting ingredients and anti-estrogens. The best way to do that is by taking a supplement like Nugenix Ultimate or PrimeMale. Unfortunately, Nugenix Total-T lags behind Nugenix Ultimate, Prime Male and TestoPrime in this area.
However, “Nugenix Ultimate” is good, but a supplement like PrimeMale or Testo Prime also has Korean Red ginseng, Ashwagandha etc. which do the magic!
Mucuna Pruriens (dopamine enhancer) – Dopamine enhances Testosterone via several mechanisms. So, basically any dopamine enhancer like Mucuna Pruriens will eventually help in increasing testosterone levels as well.
Some experts (like this article on HillSideHospital) also claim that Dopamine and Testosterone actually work together and are interdependent. Although, not much concrete scientific evidence is available, there seems to be ample anecdotal evidence as stated by HRT specialists, bodybuilders etc. that Testosterone and dopamine actually work together in the body for various functions.
It’s possible that some scientific study has shown any cause-effect relationship between dopamine & Testosterone, but no cause-effect establishment is absolutely sound or undisputed, no matter how scientifically proven it might seem.
What we do know and can tell is that Dopamine and Testosterone go together. Dopamine is also related to HGH. Bodybuilders are also known to try L-dopa or Mucuna Pruriens (natural L-dopa), an OTC available supplement to increase dopamine & its effects on human growth hormone and Testosterone. So, it’s good thing that Nugenix Ultimate has this ingredient.
Nugenix Total-T vs Nugenix Free Testosterone Booster
Nugenix Free Testosterone Booster is a weaker Tetosterone booster as compared to Nugenix Total-T. It has less powerful ingredients, and misses out on Boron, Tongkat Ali, & elevATP Blend.
It contains Testofen Fenugreek Extract 50% Fenusides and Tribulus terrestris. As you can see, it doesn’t have much ingredients for the price. As compared to Nugenix Total-T, it provides less value for money as there are several Testofen(Fenugreek Extract) and Tribulus terrestris supplements being offered on Amazon at a very cheap price.
Just combine one Fenugreek extract and one Tribulus Terrestris supplement, and you basically have all the benefits that Nugenix basic Testosterone supplement (FREE TESTOSTERONE BOOSTER) has to offer. So, Nugenix Total-T provides better value for money than the Nugenix Free Testosterone Booster, considering both products are similar priced at $69.99/bottle of 30 servings.
Nugenix Total-T vs Nugenix Maxx
Nugenix Maxx (or Total-T Maxx) is one of the handful of ashwagandha based Testosterone supplements in the marketplace that boasts of a one-of-a-kind combo of patented ingredients to maximize free and total testosterone levels. Its ingredients profile is much more diverse, and powerful than Nugenix Total-T, containing: – 600 mg. of Ashwagandha, 600 mg. of Fenugreek, 500 mg. of Shilajit purified extract etc.
Nugenix Maxx is the best Testosterone supplement among the entire Nugenix Product lineup. Unfortunately, this is also the most expansive supplement from Nugenix, priced at $169.99/bottle of 30 servings. TestoPrime is a cost-effective, affordable alternative to Nugenix Maxx.

My insights & experience using Nugenix T Boosters
Well first off, I would pick one major goal for Testosterone enhancement. Testosterone has comprehensive benefits, but we all know that we are lacking in some areas, more than others. So, identify what is it? Is it muscles, or libido or bedroom performance or shedding that extra weight around the belly, low energy and so on.. you get the idea.
Now, I recommend going through Nugenix product lineup or PowerandBulk.com’s guide to best T boosters for men, which lists the products based on specific goals.
For those looking to build muscle, energy and lose weight while attempting to raise testosterone levels, I would recommend sticking with Nugenix Total-T and starting with a healthy diet first. Eating ginger, healthy fats (like fatty fish), lean proteins, and vegetables can help enhance your testosterone boosting efforts.
For more powerful bedroom performance or treating issues like low libido, erectile dysfunction etc., it’s better to go for Nugenix Ultimate instead of Nugenix Total-T as that might work better.
Whatever your specific goal be, I would definitely focus on regular physical activity. Studies have shown that increased physical activity is more beneficial than calorie restriction in increasing testosterone levels. Resistance training, such as weightlifting, can also be beneficial in the short term.
Finally, take a quality testosterone booster, like anything from the Nugenix lineup, depending on your specific goal. I would recommend against Nugenix Free Testosterone Booster though which is their weakest formulation.
Nugenix Total-T User Reviews
Like most other Testosterone boosters out there, Nugenix Total-T has its fair share of positive & negative user reviews, with most positive reviews emphasizing its effect on bedroom performance & libido in men.
Positive User Reviews
Review 1 – I have to say I noticed a big difference after a week.
I was initially doubtful about this product due to the reviews and my past experiences with similar products. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed a substantial change in my mood and energy levels after a week of taking Nugenix. Even when I stopped taking it for two weeks to see if the results were just a fluke, I found myself feeling the difference. As a result, I am reordering the product and will continue to do so until I no longer need it. I rarely write reviews, but I wanted to share my experience in hopes that it might help someone else.
Review 2 – One of the best supplements
One of the best supplements for men over 40. It’s expensive but it works. Increased mental focus, drive and stamina.
Review 3
Started using this a couple years ago. Have always enjoyed the benefits. I have experienced all the claims made in the commercials. Recently took a 3 month break from taking these. I noticed. Took about a month and I began to feel a bit slower and my zest for my wife slipped to where I noticed. I also noticed that extra little bump at the bottom of my shirt again. Life is back to normal and I feel great. I would definitely recommend giving this product a try if you are off age and in need.
Negative User Reviews
Review 1
Guys, these products are not what they claim to be. Yes this has things In it that make you feel good over time. I tried these out for over four months. Nothing changed. I went to an actual Mens’ clinic and got tested for low t. After 4 months of this my levels were very low. It didn’t change anything. I’m now on the real stuff and after two weeks i feel like I’m 16 again. You want real test? Go to a clinic and get tested. Because it could just be your vitamin levels are low like D3. Test boosters are not real T.
Review 2
Took it for 90 days and had absolutely no improvement in ease of moving, energy. Just another scam product
Review 3
It seemed to be working and I was excited, but I had to stop because I constantly smelled like syrup because of the fenugreek. I wish they had this product without fenugreek, or maybe with a lower dose. My hands would reek of syrup, and then my body in general started to get an odor when I’d sweat. I looked up the reason and found out it was the fenugreek. So now I’m returning and trying to obtain the main ingredients separately.
Nugenix Total-T side effects
The ingredients in Nugenix Total-T are all natural, and should be safe for most people. Go through the product label to ensure you don’t have allergy to any specific ingredient. For more information on ingredients & their interactions with any drugs you might be taking, refer to mayoclinic.com or webmd.com. Nugenix Ultimate might have certain side effects for some men as it contains Epimedium which is known to cause nausea, headache, high blood pressure in some cases.
Does Nugenix work like Viagra?
While Nugenix Total-T is unlikely to work like Viagra, Nugenix Ultimate has some ingredients like Maca, Epimedium (20% icariins, PDE5 inhibitor) which can provide some Viagra like effects, albeit weaker. The supplement needs to be taken daily and given at least a week’s time to notice benefits.
Conclusion
After putting all things into consideration, the Nugenix Total-T is a relatively good choice among T-boosting supplements.
It stands out from the other supplements in the market by including natural aphrodisiacs and performance-enhancers as well. It also gets an extra point for making sure all its ingredients’ benefits are well-documented in research, the antioxidant blend in this should help men with low energy & motivation.
The Nugenix Total T also includes different vitamins and minerals that are well-known for their ability to improve energy levels and cognitive performance. Their presence in this T-boosting supplement might be due to their indirect T-boosting effects that might be a result of longer pathways.
Some added minerals like Boron and Zinc are perfect fits. However, the present amount of Zinc is underwhelming, adding up to only 1 mg per daily dose while the human body needs & other comparable products have around 11 mg. Still, Boron’s dose seems sufficient. Overall, Nugenix Total-T is a good starting point for someone new to T boosters, but there are more powerful T boosters available, both from Nugenix as well as competing brands. Nugenix Ultimate is more potent & enhanced version of this product.
